Origami is an extension project of a modest building located in Cap Ferret near the lighthouse in the ABF sector (architects of the beats of France). It is a unique and innovative design project that blends the traditional Japanese concepts of origami and wabi sabi to create a modern and functional living space.
This home extension consists of a series of diamond-shaped folds that extend outward from the home, creating a sculptural form that adds texture and visual interest to the existing structure. The shapes also help to maximize the space available inside the house, creating more spacious and bright living areas, despite the modest size of the extension (37m2)The design of the house extension individual, Origami uses a mix of natural and sustainable materials. A wooden frame in local maritime pine, organic sourced insulation made in France, and cladding, in Douglas fir from French forests, in burnt wood. Everything is partly mounted on concrete bases to retain the sloping ground on which the origami is inserted. The floor is polished concrete in the extension and in the renovation of the existing house. We thus retain a raw side and a feeling of unity between the two interior spaces as well as good thermal inertia for summer comfort. The wood stove, well placed against an existing brick wall, gives inertia for heating in winter. Inside, sleek panels of local pine plywood are thoughtfully arranged to maximize the feeling of space and it feels warm and cozy while being both sleek and modern. The large mixed windows (maritime pine wood and qualicoat/qualimarine aluminium) offer a panoramic view of the surroundings, allowing natural light to enter the house while creating a feeling of openness and space.
Outside , Origami Blends in perfectly with its environment by disappearing into the vegetation thanks to its dark burnt wood covering. This contemporary extension could have been fitted with solar panels to make the house self-sufficient. All in all, the Origami extension is an innovative and interesting design solution for homeowners looking to add space and functionality to their home. house while creating an elegant and modern living space.
